Thank-you notes are short and simple. Likewise, the opening can be as simple as writing the customer’s name:

  • Sara,
  • Dear Sara,
  • Hey Sara,
  • Hello Sara,

Use the client’s first name at the very beginning of your note to get off to a strong personal start.

  1. The Thank-You

You’re not writing a full letter, just a thank-you card. So this is where you get to the point:

  • Thanks so much for shopping with us. You could have gone to any one of our competitors, so it means a lot that you gave us a chance.
  • My name is Amber, and I work for Kitchen Supply Store. I just wanted to personally thank you for your recent purchase. It meant a lot to us!
  • This is Amber from Kitchen Supply Store. I just wanted to say it meant a lot to us to get your order. I’d love to hear your feedback if you have time.

There’s some room for personalization in this section but keep your card wording brief. No more than two or three sentences are ideal to thank them for their recent purchase.

  1. A Personal Touch

Consider this an optional step, but it can go a long way toward making the note feel personal and significant. Add a personal touch by saying something unique about yourself or the customer’s order:

  • As I was packing your order I noticed that you live in Chicago. I’ve spent quite a bit of time there, it’s one of my favorite vacation destinations!
  • The beeswax wrap you bought is one of my favorite products we carry. I’d love to hear what you think of it once you start using it.

The most important thing is, to be honest in this section. Most customers can tell if you’re making something up to seem personable. If there’s nothing about the client or their order that you can personally relate to, that’s okay.

4. The Closing

Like the opening, the closing of your thank-you note should be short and simple. A classic letter-style conclusion is just fine. Here are some examples:

  • Thanks again,
  • All the best,
  • Please visit us again,

Lastly, remember to sign off with your first name, possibly followed by the name of your business. That’s what elevates the message from business correspondence to a personal, handwritten note.
